Pastoral Message for Indigenous Children

My Beloved in Christ,

With you, my heart breaks when I think of the children who died as a result of the residential school system run by churches on behalf of our government and the people of our country.  The devastation of the children’s parents, families, and communities is impossible to fathom.  The Anglican Church of Canada as an institution, was part of that horrible legacy.  For quite some time, our church has been working with indigenous peoples and others to expose and come to grips with truth and develop a means of reconciliation with our Indigenous sisters and brothers.  You can learn about this process on the website of the Anglican Church of Canada. https://www.anglican.ca/resource-category/truth-reconciliation/

As part of this work, our leaders have offered apologies.  Here are links to the apologies and a statement from Archbishop Linda Nicholls.  I encourage you to read the apologies and learn more about how we can be part of the healing process.

With love and blessings,

Yours in Christ,

Jeff+
